AN AFRICAN PILGRIMMAGE TO GHANA WITH

AFROCENTRIC SCHOLAR, DR. MOLEFI KETE ASANTE
COME WITH US TO THE MAGNIFICENT
COUNTRY OF GHANA!

(July 7-19, 2001)

Visit the historic country of Ghana and see some of the most famous places in Africa. Stand on the very spot where Kwame Nkrumah stood when he declared that Ghana would be independent, becoming the first modern African country to gain independence. Visit W. E. B. Du Bois' home and tomb. Tour the infamous slave dungeons at Cape Coast and Elmina and imagine what millions of our ancestors went through. Sense the presence of your history. Visit the old city of Tafo and witness the traditional dances of the Akyem.  Get a chance to see the Asantehene's palace in the fabulous city of Kumasi. Explore the intricacies of the large capital city, Accra, and explore the Ga traditions. Enjoy the restaurants and nightclubs; appreciate the beautiful architecture of the University of Ghana, Legon, churches, and mosques. Most of all, become a part of the festivals of this festive city. Breathe the sounds and sights of African culture like you have never heard or seen. Visit the ancient city of Tafo for the famous Ohum Festival, and go across the sacred river.

You will stay in the top (4 and 5 star) hotels in Ghana, such as the Labadi Beach, Golden Tulip, and Coconut Grove. Ride in air-conditioned tour buses, have all entrance fees paid for museums and historical sites, and be informed by expert guides. In addition, Dr. Molefi Kete Asante, the Kyidomhene of Tafo, will give daily lectures on the culture, military history, educational system, and religion of Ghana. You will learn some phrases in the beautiful Akan language as well! Ample time is reserved for shopping in the fabulous markets for gifts and fabrics.
